3 Things to consider before locking your hair!

There is no doubt that more and more people are considering locks than ever before. As a lock wearer for 8 years as well as a Natural Hair Salon owner I wanted to give my personal and professional opinion on wearing locks and the things to consider BEFORE starting your lock journey!

1. HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU TO THE JOURNEY

Unlike in the past, lock wearers have come up with creative ways to wiggle their way out of their locked hair if they decide somewhere in their journey that they do not want to continue. Back in the day the only way out was to cut your hair! Let's save yourself some time by committing to your commitment. Know for sure that you are ready to take the road to having locks and seeing the process through. Transitioning to locks from your natural hair also requires transitioning your mind. I was "locked" in and committed to my journey at least a full year without sway before I jumped in!

2. WHAT TYPE OF LOCKS WOULD BEST FIT YOUR LIFESTYLE

There are several different types of locks you can choose for now. Locks use to have one look! When you would hear someone speaking about locks, Bob Marley would come to mind...or am I the only one?? Now there are so many different ways locks can be installed as well as maintained. You have traditional locks, interlocks, and

Sisterlocks TM to start. Each lock type carry a different cost, install method and maintenance. Know which one it right for you, your budget, and lifestyle.

3. ARE YOU OKAY WITH ALL PHASES OF THE JOURNEY

Coming out of your natural hair and sometimes even relaxed hair, watching your hair change during the locking process can be discouraging. You may be used to slicking your edges or having a more polished look at all times. Hair is a funny thing and the expectation should be different for each person. There may be times when you feel your hair is too frizzy. You have to trust the process and if you transitioned your mind like mentioned in number one then you will already know it's all a part of it. Give your new locks a chance to be all they can be by allowing them to do what they will naturally do. Love on them and love each stage because it won't last long!
